New Opportunity: The Americas Cultural Entrepreneurship Award

Washington DC, United States, December 3, 2014— The Young Americas Business Trust (YABT) and the OAS Executive Secretariat for Integral Development (SEDI) are pleased to announce the Americas Cultural Entrepreneurship Award as a new category of the Talent and Innovation Competition of the Americas (TIC Americas) during the OAS Youth Conference in Washington DC.

The Americas Cultural Entrepreneurship Award was established by the Ministers of Culture at the Sixth Inter-American Meeting held in Haiti in August 2014. The Declaration of Port-au-Prince on “Cultural Interdependence in the Context of Globalization” recognizes the importance of culture and innovation as a driver for social and economic development.

Young people between the age of 18 and 34 who have an innovative project or business idea in the cultural sector are invited to apply. The deadline to register is February 6, 2015.

“Cultural industries have both a younger age profile and a higher degree of self-employment. The Americas Cultural Entrepreneurship Award highlights the contribution to development of young innovative cultural entrepreneurs in the Americas”, asserted Maryse Robert, Director, Department of Economic Development, Trade and Tourism, Organization of American States (OAS).

“For the Young Americas Business Trust (YABT), the Americas Cultural Entrepreneurship Award is a perfect mechanism to include all the creative young people in the Americas into economic activities based on innovation, we congratulate the efforts of SEDI in partnering with us in the creation of this award category” mentioned YABT CEO.

The best projects in this new category will compete in the TIC Americas finals that will take place in Panama, in April 2015, within the framework of the IV Youth Forum of the Americas —an official activity of the VII Summit of the Americas.
